WVU football: Peeking ahead at future Mountaineer schedules
September 13, 2019 by Tom Bragg
There was a bit of a shakeup among West Virginia University’s future football opponents this week, and that seems like as good a time as any to spend a few minute gazing into the who, when and where of WVU’s future football opponents.
First, what’s new with the Mountaineers — Indiana State backed out of a 2021 date with WVU to instead play closer to home against Northwestern. The left a hole among West Virginia’s non-conference opponents that season. According to a report by FBSchedules.com, WVU will host Long Island, a newly minted Division I football program this season, on Sept. 11, 2021. LIU, which came to be after a combination of athletic departments from satellite campus LIU Brookyn and LIU Post, will receive $475,000 for the game according to the contract obtained in the original report. Long Island is currently in its first season at the Football Championship Subdivision level.
So for those keeping score, swap Long Island in place of Indiana State on the 2021 schedule. Here is what the rest of the known future WVU football schedules look like according to FBSchedules.com. Of course, as we saw this week, these games are always subject to change.
