The Sock 'Em, Bust 'Em Board Because that's our custom

They don’t play them here as often as it seems like they used to, but (as I wrote this week) the weeknight, national cable slot has been kind to WVU football over the years. Let’s take a quick look at some fun clips I could find on YouTube of memorable moments from the game that sticks out the most in my memory: when WVU whipped rival Virginia Tech on a Wednesday in Morgantown in 2003.

Quincy Wilson went off, the defense clamped down and the Mountaineers walked away with 28-7 win against the No. 3 Hokies. This was also the night of the infamous pepper spray on the field incident.

Also from that night:

This video is fantastic and crammed full of cool stuff to look out for. There’s Pacman Jones telling (I think) Thandi Smith that it was going down at his house that night. I don’t think we made it to that party, but I rode up with some friends from Huntington that night when it became clear what the result was going to be and can confirm it was indeed going down at *a lot* of houses in Morgantown that night. Also keep an eye out around the 2:15 mark when Rich Rod goes into his postgame speech to the players. See that kid directly behind him that pops into view of the camera a few times smiling and clapping? That’s Clint Trickett!

Kickoff for tonight’s game against Baylor in Morgantown is in a little more than an hour. Plan accordingly.
