The Sock 'Em, Bust 'Em Board Because that's our custom

My goodness, what a boring … hey, that was neat!

Neck-wrenching, writer-aggravating drama inside the Erwin Center last Wednesday night, but West Virginia very much survived itself and Texas for a 57-53 win.

“I’m proud of our guys,” Coach Bob Huggins said. “We had opportunities to pack it in and we didn’t when we got down (13) points and we were having a hard time scoring. Hopefully this kind of gets us back to being my kind of team.”

That last line is intriguing and will ignite our discussion today as I travel back to my base.

Did WVU get warm at the right time against a so-so team and do just enough while the Longhorns did just about nothing? Or did WVU go all Big East in the first Big 12 road game and play defense and gaffle rebounds and thrive in a deliberate, half-court game?

That is, did the Mountaineers do what they do?

Was that good fortune against an unfortunate team? Or did the Mountaineers take a step in the direction Huggins had been pulling them all season?

I think you know the sounds of the quotes after the game and what the players think and what Huggins hopes, but what about you? Will you be fooled again or were they fooling you all along before this?

(Also, still nothing official on your two coaches, but I’ve been told everything is agreed to and lined up for a conclusion and there’s nothing expected to derail this. Now, that’s what I heard Tuesday, but Wednesday did nothing to weaken that. Obviously, today is a big day. Anybody care to bet this drops when I’m somewhere over Tennessee?)
