The Sock 'Em, Bust 'Em Board Because that's our custom

Another TBA

If you must finger-gesture upon reading this news, please only do so to scratch one’s head. Tajh Boyd, who was so frustrated with the direction of WVU’s offense he decided to decommit last month, has volunteered his services to Tennessee. Why, you ask?

The main reason Boyd reneged on his commitment to WVU was that he didn’t feel comfortable with the Mountaineers’ offensive philosophy. But he likes what he sees out of Tennessee.

“Basically, they run about the same offense there that we run here,” he said. “They run a lot of rollouts like we do. And I feel I can come in and play early in that type of offense.”

Well, three underclassmen quarterbacks might disagree, but, sure, who wouldn’t want the key to that offensive juggernaut?

I don’t think it’s going to happen, but there’s a chance Phil Fulmer will be fired or resign. (Ed: Unbelievable. Mike Leach, you have a call on like two.) At the very minimal, there could be changes to the staff and likely the offensive staff. Fulmer hired a new offensive coordinator this season and it hasn’t worked too well, yet that’s the offense Boyd seems to have taken a liking to of late.

What’s it mean? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Changes at Tennessee could means changes in Boyd’s mind, but Tennessee could keep the staff completely in tact and we may still see another TBA.

I don’t know the kid. Never met him. Never spoke to him. Yet it seems he — how do I say this? — really enjoys the recruiting process. Custom T-shirts and eye-black patches. Recruiting friends and teammates to WVU. Somewhere along the line I think he enjoyed it a little too much, offered his thoughts, and perhaps threats, to the Mountaineers and created some sort of a rift that preceded the split.

I wrote when it happened, “I wonder about the finality of the situation.” Seemed to me a kid wanted to be shown a little more affection, or be given a little more say than he was entitled to, and things would work themselves out in the end. Well, it sure seems reconciliation will not happen, but who knows? Maybe this is another ploy for said say and affection. Maybe the kid just likes the SEC and the chance to resurrect an offense. One thing’s for sure: This can’t be the end.
