The Sock 'Em, Bust 'Em Board Because that's our custom

Friday Feedback

… will not be seen at this time. Apologies as I’m sure it totally taints your day. Short week and an early start on this trip to GVegas that just won’t go as planned — we know that. I’ve got every contingency outside of a hot air baloon covered. I’m hopeful to be back by Tuesday.

I just wish I was as confident as the neighborhood Elks Lodge.

Anyhow, I do want to raise one point now that the season is a week old. During breaks in the candlelight vigil for Beanie Wells and his foot, there’s been concern about Tim Tebow and his lack of productivity. It would seem obvious the reigning Heisman Trophy winner is the biggest competitor for anyone hoping to win it this year … and that’s of particular interest to to those who believe Pat White can win. After a week and a long, hard look into the future, I think Pat’s a serious contender and, let’s be honest, he and Tebow are somewhat similar.

As such, they could have similar statistics and this is a prize driven by numbers. Yet there’s a key element that needs to be discussed … and credit for this must go to Scott Taylor — his comments are the ones authored by overtheSEC — for not only beating me to the punch on the research, but for beating me down in the process. His thorough work follows the jump.

Cameron Newton was Tim Tebow’s backup last yearCheck out his 2007 stats

16 rushing attempts, 10 passing attemptsFlorida won 7 games by 20 or more points last yearWestern Kentucky 49-3Troy 59-31

Tennessee 59-20

Vanderbilt 49-22

South Carolina 51-31

Florida Atlantic 59-20

Florida State 45-12

Doing some research with the ESPN play by play log, I found Tim Tebow
played the entire game in two of them (including the 33 point blowout of
FSU) and in four of the other five games, never sat out more than two
possessions

Western Kentucky – Played all but last two UF possessions, Florida was
up 42-3 at that point

Troy – Played all but last UF possession (four snaps), Florida was up
59-31 at that point

Tennessee – Played all but last UF possession, Florida was up 52-20 at
that point

Vanderbilt – Played all but last two UF possessions, Florida was up
49-22 at that point

South Carolina – Played entire game

Florida Atlantic – Played all but last 3 UF possessions, Florida was up
52-20 at that point

Florida State – Played entire game
This brings me to my question: when will we see Pat White pulled out of
games this year?  Especially a game like Saturday’s (which will
hopefully be over before too much of the stadium is in the shadows)?
It feels like last year Pat barely played in the fourth quarter of any
games that were practically won by that point.  (Because the Marshall
game ended with handoffs on the last two series I can’t confirm it was
Brown handing it off, but I can confirm for every other game that we won
by 20 or more that Pat did not play the entire game in any of them.)
What do you think Stew’s plan will be?  He’s torn because he wants to
keep Pat healthy, but he also wants to promote Pat as the best player in
decades at WVU and his blessing on the Heisman campaign, you wonder if
he’ll let Pat get more TDs (the stat that clearly gave Tebow the
Heisman)  Brown could probably be the starter at half of the Big East
schools and will be the man next year and you hate to turn him into
Cameron Newton.
Thoughts?  I would love to see you expand on this in an article or the
blog.

Done! Valid points worth of a valid discussion.
