The Sock 'Em, Bust 'Em Board Because that's our custom

Seeing red and scoreboard progress

Let’s agree to hold of the coaches’ catwalk until tomorrow. Instead, how about an update on the scoreboard? A practice report follows, though again, it’s really hard to say who did what. I can tell you who didn’t have a good day: The guy holding the pad in this running back drill (that’d be Terence Kerns as No. 27 and Noel Devine as No. 7).

As you can see, some construction has started on the right.

Photobucket

It’s part of the video screen, which looks like it’ll be enormous.

Photobucket

Seriously, enormous.

Photobucket

Back outside, imagine having to paint that thing. How do you get through?

Photobucket

Ah, that makes sense. (To be fair, it’s just a box used to carry tools. I think.)

This is freshman free safety Robert Sands … all 6-foot-4, 205-pounds of him. He neither looks nor plays like a true freshman. He’s been perhaps the most impressive freshman in camp. I thought you got the best idea of how big he was from afar.

Photobucket

I was wrong. He’s more imposing up close.

– Lots of red jerseys in practice today: Ryan Stanchek is still out and Wes Lyons and Brad Starks (that sounds better to me) remain out. They were joined today by fullback Max Anderson and — uhoh — H-back/fullback/tight end Will Johnson, whose right foot was in a boot. Woodrow Wilson’s Marquel Ali injured his left knee in practice and it was immediately wrapped in ice. Ali, a gifted sprinter, blew out his left knee in the final game of the football season last year.

– Pat Liebig practiced again. If the NCAA denies him, an angry mob from the Puskar Center might storm the NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis.
