Huggins Completes 2008-09 Recruiting Class

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (July 10, 2008) – Demetrius “Dee” Proby, a 6-foot-10, 240-pound power forward, has signed a grant-in-aid to attend West Virginia University in 2008-09 and play basketball for the Mountaineers, Coach Bob Huggins announced today.

Proby spent the last two years at Angelina College in Lufkin, Texas. Most recently, he averaged 14 points and six rebounds for the Road Runners. As a freshman, he averaged 6.7 points and 2.4 rebounds in 31 games.

Originally from Round Rock, Texas, a suburb of Austin, Proby attended Stony Point High. He was named the team MVP and was a first-team all-district selection his senior season. He was also named to the Austin All-Star game in 2005.

“He’s a skilled big man who will fit in extremely well with the way we play,” says Huggins. “He passes the ball well, he can make shots facing the basket and he gives us a big body in the post that we are lacking.”

The rising junior will have three years to complete two seasons of eligibility.

Proby joins Darryl “Truck” Bryant (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Roscoe Davis (Upper Marlboro, Md.), Devin Ebanks (Long Island City, N.Y.) and Kevin Jones (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) as signees for the 2008-09 season.

“We’re excited about this class,” says Huggins. “We believe this class has filled our needs. We need to consistently score better, and we also think this class will go to great lengths to consistently defend better.”
