Here’s hoping WVU’s Pat McAfee is reading this blog because he’s basically writing it at this point. Quote the kicker as he comments on University of Phoenix Stadium

“The grass walks itself.”

Named after the online university that gave former director of men’s basketball operations John Mahoney a master’s degree, the stadium is truly unique. Many stadiums have retractable roofs, including nearby Chase Field, but University of Phoenix Stadium has a retractable roof and field.

The stadium, which opened in August 2006, is home to the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals, played host to last year’s Bowl Championship Series national championship game and will play host to the Jan. 2 Fiesta Bowl and the upcoming Super Bowl. It also accommodates basketball, soccer, concerts, consumer shows, motor sports, rodeos and corporate events.

It’s 1.7 million square feet and seats 63,400 for NFL games and 73,000 for Super and college bowls. There are 73 restrooms — 33 for women, 28 for men and 12 for families (?) — and a total of 1,175 “fixtures.” There are also 1,250 trees planted throughout the stadium and the combination should solve whatever problems are created by there being 310 food and beverage concession stands on site.
