RFC 201 with WATT4, Super Heavy Duty and more!

Image3Our first post-milestone show features music from WATT4 and Super Heavy Duty, plus animation from Third Mind Incarnation and a short film by Frank Panucci. With this episode, Radio Free Charleston reverts back to its original format, with a shorter running time and more frequent shows. The plan is to alternate weeks between full episodes of Radio Free Charleston, and episodes of The RFC MINI SHOW.

We shot our host segments at Riverside High School, after driving around looking for some nice fall foliage, and not finding that enough had turned yet, so we called an audible and shot in Quincy.

A Word From Art
A Word From Art

Our first bit of entertainment this week is a short film called “A Word From Art.” This is a brief, yet meaty, example of Zen Foodism. With its economic animation and diversionary spoken word poetry, its tricks your mind into thinking that it’s mere silliness, when in fact it will make you crave white bread and vanilla wafers.

After that, we come to WATT4. Our old friends have just recently reunited with vocalist Lee Harrah and are playing shows for the first time after a long layoff. We caught them earlier this month at The Blue Parrot and recorded quite a bit of material. You can expect to see them star in an RFC MINI SHOW next month.

We bring you two WATT4 originals, “I Don’t Deserve You,” and “Bad Situation.”

We will keep you posted on WATT4’s next live gig. Lee Harrah will be performing with his other band, HarraH, at the 13th Lane Taproom at Dunbar Lanes on Halloween night. The evening kicks off at 9 PM with the reunited Under The Radar, and then goes past midnight as HarraH rocks the pins in Dunbar. Under The Radar was one of the first bands we had on RFC, and it’ll be cool to see them again, sharing the stage with our production assistant, Lee.

Up next in the show is more animation from the Third Mind Incarnation vault. “Pumping Irony” is funny enough without context, but is apparently also laced with inside jokes.

Super Heavy Duty

Our second musical guest is Super Heavy Duty, who starred in their own RFC MINI SHOW last month. This performance of their song, “Here I Be,” was recorded at the same session and features Bobby Blaze, their bassist, on lead vocals.

Super Heavy Duty will be part of The Empty Glass’s fifteenth annual Halloween Hootenanny, along with the all-star line up of Time And Distance, The Renfields and The Big Bad. It’s one of the five-hundred amazing shows happening in town on Halloween night.

That’s about it for this week’s show. Next week we’re going to bring you The RFC MINI SHOW starring The Jasons, and the week after that we’re planning a Halloween surprise with lots of scary stuff…that we haven’t shot yet.
