Jack swagger

Well, we have some arm talent here, don’t we? Begin with a 50-yard drop-shuffle-reset throw, and then behold how Jack Allison, the latest addition to West Virginia’s football roster, uses his height to make a bevy of throws. Listed at 6-foot-5 by the tape measures at Miami, Allison sees over the line, leverages throws into windows and generally places the ball where he needs to.

Allison, of course, was at first reportedly headed to a Mississippi junior college. That was ultimately inaccurate — I was told there was some confusion over transfer guidelines, and that was sorted out by a series of conversations — and last night Allison committed to the Mountaineers.

In Dana Holgorsen’s time at WVU, Allison is the third quarterback to transfer from a Florida school and the fifth quarterback transfer. (Sixth if you count Mike Burchett, as you should.) It doesn’t quiet the curiosity about Holgorsen’s history with high school quarterbacks, but if you look at the roster now, you see Will Grier, who quite simply has the best resume ever for a WVU quarterback, and you see Allison, who was a top-10 quarterback and a top 70 player in the 2016 recruiting class. Talent is talent, is it not?

Recruiting is not easy, and it’s complicated by certain nuances at WVU. Recruiting quarterbacks is harder, and you again have to amplify that for the Mountaineers. I’m curious where you’re at now with getting a good quarterback, no matter his origin.
