Good news, bad news

West Virginia’s non-conference football schedule is set. In addition to the season-opening game against Virginia Tech at FedEx Field, which has a 7:30 p.m. kickoff time, we now know the home games against East Carolina on Sept. 9 and Delaware State on Sept. 16 will begin at noon. The opener will be on ABC, the ECU game will be on FS2 (!) and the Delaware State will be on Root Sports.

All nine of the Big 12 games will be at the mercy of the television networks, and the ABC/ESPN-Fox Sports folks will get to exercise those cheeky six- and 12-day windows. Looking at the schedule and the Kansas State-Texas-Oklahoma conclusion, you’d think that what they think is Mountaineers are going to be in this until the finish.

Or not.

Ordinarily, those final regular-season games are kind of like the playoffs and the Big 12 saves the best and likely most-impactful games for last. Oklahoma v. WVU might then make sense in the final week of the season. But this year, we have the Big 12 championship game, and the Big 12 does not want repeats from the final or probably even the penultimate week. So, Sooners v. Mountaineers in the final week makes sense there, too.

No wonder the Bedlam game is Nov. 4.

Anyhow, fancy these over/under propositions for the 2017 season
