The Sock 'Em, Bust 'Em Board Because that's our custom

Kentucky, right?

Spoke with the West Virginia athletic director a short time ago as he readied for the trip to PNC Park, and we covered a few topics, like the uneventful conference meetings last week and the future of television models. A bit of housekeeping overturned those two couch cushions.

So WVU is making itself available for a baseball regional, which is a necessity because of the trajectory of the team and the novelty of the sport and ballpark, and will be the host for the Big 12/SEC Challenge.

The former is, of course, unknown. You need to be a top-16 seed, and the Mountaineers dropped to seven spots to No. 20 in the RPI with yesterday’s loss and won’t rise seven spots if it gets payback and beats Penn State today. As for the latter, I’ve heard a proposed lineup is set and the networks have to make a schedule the conferences agree to, but there’s no way to know for sure who plays who just yet. Lyons said he hopes it’s set by the end of the month. Last year, the matchups were unveiled on May 24.

The event has not been benevolent for the Mountaineers, who are frankly due for fairer treatment, but they were the home team last year and get a home game against this year. I’m just certain you’re confident you’ll get a home game and a marquee opponent.

Guesses?
