Baseball team gets picked off

rpi

Bad news for West Virginia’s baseball team? Hit a three-run homer in the top of the first inning, had a 4-0 lead after three innings and had Alex Manoah allow three hits and two runs in six innings of work but lost when the bullpen sprung a leak. No. 21 Maryland prevailed at home, 7-5, and has won 12 of 13 in its own ballpark. WVU has its first losing streak since losses at Southeastern Louisiana and Old Dominion on March 8 and 10.

Good news for the Mountaineers? Up three spots in the RPI. One game did that. There are six left against TCU and Texas Tech, which are above WVU, and three against Oklahoma, which is No. 17, and Texas, which is No. 31. That’s going to help the hits the Mountaineers acquire with games against Marshall (No. 102), Virginia Tech (No. 107),  Eastern Michigan (No. 177), Penn State (No. 184) and Pitt (No. 74) and series against Kansas State (No. 126) and Gardner-Webb (No. 184).
