The Sock 'Em, Bust 'Em Board Because that's our custom

A little more help on the way?

Reggie Roberson looks like he can lend a hand, no?

True, highlight tapes can be and are produced to showcase the player, but that first play impresses. My initial thought was, “Why’d he include, like, a 50-yard kickoff return.” Roberson fits the parameters of a receiver who can catch passes in the end zone, and West Virginia does need that, especially from the 30-yard line and in, but the offense also needs players who can catch passes and make people miss or just run away from defender. (And block! Go to the 0:40 mark here.) John Horn High is Class 6A in Texas. That’s the top level. Jakeem Grant and Taylor Gabriel walked those halls. I’m not saying this is that, but you could make worse additions this week.

Much like Lackawanna College offensive lineman Isaiah Hardy,Roberson would be another 11th-hour accessory.

Roberson received his offer just two weeks ago, but the Mountaineers quickly moved into contention, joining Washington State, Illinois and Utah in his final four. This weekend’s trip may have been what West Virginia needed to get the edge on those teams.

“Things went well; I liked it a lot,” Roberson said after the trip. “The coaches and the environment [stuck out]. Just everything was great.”

Roberson hinted that he may already know his college choice, but he won’t announce it until Monday evening at 7 p.m. during a ceremony at his high school. His 247Sports Crystal Ball — a collection of predictions from experts across the industry — shows a 50-50 split between WVU and Illinois.

Roberson was one of a few visitors for the last weekend before national signing day, and the Mountaineers feel confident about adding a defensive lineman and hopeful about adding another receiver from that group. Signing day is Wednesday, but WVU will continue to work on the 2017 roster afterward by courting transfers that could be of use on offense and defense. Again, do not be alarmed when WVU signs fewer than 25 players.
