The Sock 'Em, Bust 'Em Board Because that's our custom

Attendance: 8,800

Fun little day at the Coliseum Saturday … unless you were the UMCK player who had five fouls and four turnovers in five minutes. But everyone on the other side of the floor enjoyed being a part of the spectacle that was a 45-point win and the 800th victory of Bob Huggins career.

The first half was a mugging, which has come to be expected in this non-conference season, and the second half saw the Kangaroos compete and linger to the point Huggins called timeout and subbed five for five. It worked. WVU added 10 points to the margin, and the final few minutes were, perhaps appropriately, a showcase for in-state players.

The event was the postgame, though. There was the video tribute on the board above the floor, a speech and a gift from Shane Lyons, a surprisingly emotional speech from Huggins and finally another video with the best wishes of 59 friends, family members, adversaries and former teammates, players and assistants. Fifty-nine. That’s Bob Huggins. WVU has chronicled many of them here.

When all of that was done, he met with the media, and Huggins realized he was finally among the legends of the sport he once dreamed of joining.
