Missouri has a depth chart, too!
August 30, 2016 by Mike CasazzaIt actually came out before West Virginia’s, but the home team’s two-deep cannot wait. Missouri’s? We could put it on the back burner Monday and get to it today.
This is not to say the Tigers are not worth discussing. They are.
The big item is the identity of the starting quarterback. Drew Lock played a lot last season, thrust into the starting spot when Maty Mauk went rogue. Lock was 2-6 as the starter and was at the held for a miserable stretch of three full games and 43 possessions without an offensive touchdown. But he’s a former Elite 11 finalist who has the tools and now, under the tutelage of new offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Josh Heupel, who tutored a Heisman Trophy winner, he has some more seasoning.
But Marvin Zanders is going to play. The coaching staff likes his skill set — he can run, and he was used just once last season in a goal line package — and he’s a riddle WVU will have to solve on the field Saturday. But it’s not going to be a surprise. The Mountaineers saw the Mizzou spring game — it was televised — and Zanders was good there and was continually talked up by the Tigers coaches throughout camp.

… and two more backups are true freshmen. Some of those five will play.
Walk-on D-end Jordan Harold listed as a starter for Mizzou. Wow.

“Wow.” Now this looks different, I would imagine, if the Tigers hadn’t had the attrition they had in the offseason. But that defense has five of the team’s top six tacklers last season — Scherer, Sherrils, Newsom, Penton and Harris, who are all good players.
The special teams have some issues, like the identity of the kicker, but you ought to recognize the name of the kickoff returner who happens to be the starting running back.
