In the hunt?

Congratulations on the terrible headline, Mike!

Ah, but there’s a point. Before we get there, have a look at West Virginia’s newest football commit. He’s very excited.

Hunt was here for an event over the summer, and he was part of a loaded Bishop Sullivan Catholic team that was the highlight of the field of participants.

Hunt, who visited Morgantown for the 7-on-7 tournament in June, received an offer from West Virginia earlier this week, and he quickly made his intentions known.

“I had to take it. I couldn’t pass up on that offer,” said the 6-foot-1, 177-pounder. “I was just waiting for [the offer].”

The WVU coaching staff paid close attention to the 247Sports three-star prospect, watching him throughout the tournament and then evaluating his film as a staff earlier this month. While they obviously liked what they saw, Hunt was equally as impressed with what he witnessed at WVU.

“When I went up there, I loved it up there,” he said. “I loved the atmosphere with the coaches. The fans show a lot of love. I feel like I fit in with their defense.”

Hunt played last season at Bayside High. He transferred to Bishop Sullivan, but that’s been a popular destination since the end of last season. Bishop Sullivan has a new coach, and Chris Scott has brought some players with him and attracted others to his new job — Bishop Sullivan is a private school. One of the top newcomers? Hunt’s Bayside teammate Teradja Mitchell, a linebacker who’s one of the top players in the 2018 class and was on WVU’s campus in June.
