Illinois, which in hindsight had one of the clumsiest coaching searches and then made one of the most regrettable major college hires in recent years, because John Groce made his name by bating Georgetown in the NCAA tournament, in all likelihood will not help WVU’s RPI that much.

The Mountaineers should hope to win that game and then see Florida State, which has some preseason top 25 buzz to go with promising returning pieces, in the final. Temple lost three starters and three of its top five scorers and rebounders from last season’s NCAA Tournament team, though the Owls have one of the country’s most admired coaches in Fran Dunphy, who typically succeeds when turning less into more.
