The Sock 'Em, Bust 'Em Board Because that's our custom

‘I will really consider West Virginia.’

We are in the dead of the offseason and the thick of camp season, so there is a particular nuance needed to pay and maintain attention to the current proceedings. I mean, look at how campy this calendar is! Football has three camps Friday. I might fit in three meals.

Camps are critical to recruiting, and men’s basketball is in a stretch of six straight days of camp — some days are bigger than others … in this case, literally — and it’s the longest such run in the athletic department. But it’s matched by the gymnastics team, which is also conducting six straight days of camp.

Anyhow, football has a big, big weekend coming up, highlighted by the 7-on-7 camp that always gives offensive and defensive coaches a useful look at skill positions and defensive backs (but there’s a big man camp, too!) and produces a lot of decisions about and by aspiring college players.

This is commitment watch time as players wrap up their summers and coaches head off to vacation, and if nothing else, West Virginia has promising momentum entering the weekend based off what happened last weekend. WVU’s new and improved digs were a popular destination for some of the top prospects in the entire country, including players from Detroit, where WVU is just now digging in, Texas and even West Virginia.
