The Sock 'Em, Bust 'Em Board Because that's our custom

But what is the Baylor Line these days?

Ken Starr, who once and perhaps ironically investigated President Clinton for among many things lying, is by all indications done at Baylor.

That may be the right thing to do. It might be the only thing that  happens, though anyone who knows anything knows that what happens at a major college football program is rarely if ever known by the president and not the athletic director and/or head coach.

For now, who knows, but this news, if you will, comes not long after Baylor was presented news of its own.

Earlier this month, Pepper Hamilton, a law firm the university hired to investigate how it has handled allegations of sexual assault, presented a lengthy oral report to the board summarizing its findings. The report places ultimate blame for the mishandling of several sexual assault cases squarely on Starr.

“The Baylor Board of Regents continues its work to review the findings of the Pepper Hamilton investigation, and we anticipate further communication will come after the board completes its deliberations,” the university said Tuesday in a written statement. “We will not respond to rumors, speculation or reports based on unnamed sources, but when official news is available, the university will provide it.”

Ah, but we know when. No later than June 3, which means two things:

  1. Baylor is kinda-sorta dragging its feet here, too, which is unfortunate but also maybe a necessity. Settlements and severance agreements and the like can take time, and things like confidentiality pacts are particular.
  2. Starr is on the league’s composition committee with Gordon Gee and Oklahoma’s David Boren. That group vets expansion candidates and advises the membership. The league’s presidents and chancellors meet at the end of this week in Dallas and will decide what to do about expanding. Starr is probably needed there. It might be his last hurrah. He might be the first to fall.
