The Sock 'Em, Bust 'Em Board Because that's our custom

A little help has arrived

You never know with junior colleges transfers, but three players West Virginia could use in the fall — and two the Mountaineers absolutely will — are already on campus.

Lackawanna College has a very strong reputation, so WVU probably wasn’t too worried about Kyzir White, who will live with his brother Ka’Raun, or Wesco, who lived with Kyzir when they were with the Falcons.

Kyzir is going to play spur and he’s going to take aim at Marvin Gross right away. He was, honestly, one of the best junior college defensive backs available in the 2016 class.

Wesco was hardly celebrated, but he has a good story that’s adding a new chapter. More importantly, he’s just a big, nimble body, and WVU doesn’t have many of those at tight end, which could help him get on the field. When I visited Lackawanna last year for that Kevin White opus and met Ka’Raun and Kyzir, I got to watch a practice, and I asked one of their coaches, “Who’s that tackle playing on both ends of the line? He looks great.”

Wesco. Wasn’t a tackle. Was about as big.

He did miss last season because of a knee injury, but he has three years left to play three seasons, so there’s no use in having him sit. Arriving early will help with whatever rust accumulated and/or remains.

Crawford is the national player of the year, and that ought to speak for itself, but you really can’t overstate how much it means for him or for WVU to have him on campus now, because the offense needs running backs.

Oddly enough, the biggest name goes last may very well end up waiting the longest. Grier is the storied transfer from Florida and perhaps the most decorated quarterback the Mountaineers have ever had. But he’s definitely sitting out in 2016 and may miss the first six games of the 2017 season if WVU doesn’t find a waiver around that one-year ban that’s presently on pause.
