WVU v. Texas: Another day, another lineup

Myers_MORAES-2

You are looking live at the newest starter on No. 10 West Virginia’s basketball team … we think. We propose. It makes no sense, but it makes perfect sense. Teyvon Myers has not done a lot since joining the team late in the summer and just before the start of the fall semester. He’s played but 188 minutes in 22 games, and he’s never had more than 10 points in a game while scoring just 48 this season.

But that guy — this guy — should start tonight against No. 24 Texas.

Daxter Miles will not play. He’s not even with the team. Jaysean Paige and Tarik Phillip do not want to start. So, what does Bob Huggins do? Start Paige against his wishes? Start Phillip against his wishes and move Jevon Carter off the ball and to here we was far more comfortable and productive last season? Start Paige and Jon Holton and bring Nate Adrian off the bench, which does displace Paige and Adrian, but gives the bench some purpose because Adrian can spell Holton at power forward and Paige and Adrian can spell Esa Ahmad at small forward?

Any one of those moves might be an answer, but each has consequences. The idea with the fewest consequences is to start Myers and bring Paige, Phillip and Holton off the bench. Maybe Myers gives you a few good minutes, scores a few points or steps in some passing lanes. Anything positive is a win. But if it goes poorly, you take him out and get on with things … which, if we’re being honest, is no different than what we’ve seen a few times with Miles and Huggins this season.

Should this happen, then that’s five different starting lineups in 11 games, which is why this should happen. It causes the least amount of ripples.
