The Sock 'Em, Bust 'Em Board Because that's our custom

Tuesday changeup

At some point in time after taping this last night, Tier 4 lost a soldier. My camera just sort of stopped working, and that’s going to preempt your normally scheduled Taboo. Here’s the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving Special in its stead.

It’s not impossible I fix this before kickoff, but it’s not necessarily a bad thing today.

We need to break off our route and throw some spotlight elsewhere (and I need to do a lot of work in a condensed week). Football’s our focus here, what with three 100-yard rushers for the first time in 46 years, but what about other WVU items in triplicate?

Like, WVU demolished Bethune-Cookman last night and three players had double-doubles, which hadn’t happened since 1994.

And then Teyvon Myers got some burn for the first time and made a 3-pointer late to join six others in double figures. The guy at his third college in three years had 10 points on 2-for-5 shooting in 17 minutes. He was 1-for-9 for four points in 30 minutes the first three games.

If that’s the start, that’s good news because that guy does not stop.

“We thought he could score,” Huggins said. “Really, he’s scored his whole career. It’s hard when you’re trying to figure out whether you’re doing the right thing or not. Those guys who don’t care whether they’re doing the right thing or not, it’s not so hard, I guess. But when you’re so conscious of doing the right thing and you’re not sure whether you’re doing the right thing or not, it makes it more difficult.”

The 6-foot-2, 170-pound Myers has a fix for that.

“I believe in child-like enthusiasm,” he said.

That explains the non-stop motion. On the floor. On the bench. In practice. In the film room. Anywhere.

“Since I’m new, I’m going to mess up, but I’m going to mess up going hard,” he said. “I’ll always give the best of my ability. I was always told you’re either unable or unwilling. I will never be unwilling.”

And finally, there’s the women’s soccer team, which plays for a spot in the Final Four Saturday at Penn State at 4 p.m. Friday, that after a win Sunday in which senior Kailey Utley scored three times in a three-goal win against Loyola Marymount. The Mountaineers have won three in a row after losing their first Big 12 Tournament game in three years.
