One more point

Villanova’s Emily Leer entered Sunday’s WNIT game against West Virginia with 971 career points. She got hot against in the second half and had 25 points in regulation, where the Wildcats really should have won the game. The Mountaineers scored the first six points of overtime and then had a 70-64 lead before Leer made her sixth 3-pointer of the game to give her 28 points with 30 seconds left to play.

Villanova fouled, WVU made two free throws and Villanova missed a 3 and fouled. We’ll pick up the action here.

In the setback, senior center Emily Leer became the 24th player in Villanova women’s basketball history to score 1,000 career points. Leer’s 1,000th point came on a free throw with 7.9 seconds remaining.

Mike Carey, everybody! If you live in Morgantown and want to get a look Wednesday night, WVU and Temple tip at 7 p.m. If you live in Charleston and want to get a look, you should hope that the Mountaineers win and that the WNIT grants WVU’s wish and gives it the home game for the final … in the Civic Center!
