The Sock 'Em, Bust 'Em Board Because that's our custom

FYI and FYE

The latest summer session at WVU started today and the football and basketball programs both said hello to two new faces.

We’ve known Miles for a while now. He played high school ball at Tavon’s Dunbar High for former Mountaineers guard Cyrus Jones. He was supposed to be part of last year’s recruiting lass, but prepped instead and, as I’m told, physically matured and now looks much different.

Paige was a late addition to this recruiting class, but one a lot of people really like. His star rose during his second junior college season and I’ve talked to a few Division II and lower-level Division I coaches who saw him and said, “Welp, he’s D-I.”

That gives WVU 11 newcomers already on campus since the start of the summer sessions. DTW probably provides a slight sigh of relief. There were some whispers about his status, but those appear to be gone with the wind.

You’ll remember he was something of a signing day surprise and arguably WVU’s most-touted recruit (inarguably, he was the best dressed). He’s staring up a mountain on the depth chart this season, but that will not be held against him. He’s a different back than probably everyone but Dreamius, so there might be a need or a place.

People keep telling me Funderburk is a sleeper and has a chance to leave a mark this season. He’s a lock for “name most often misspelled.

Finally, you may or may not have noticed, but I’ve actually been gone for several days now on a quasi-vacation. I wanted to keep the blog rolling for the series last week and other events. One thing that didn’t get attention right away was the resolution of the Youngstown State game and the cool half-a-mill the Penguins will receive.

It’s a pretty pedestrian game contract, but I do enjoy these things and figure you might, too. If you’ve ever wondered what these pacts look like, wonder know more and instead know for sure.
