WVU v. Maryland: Doing this in style

You are looking live at my favorite tailgate of the year. There are many in the lots that surround this NFL stadium, but this … I just … it’s splendid. Wine in the cellar!

More style? How about an immense slideshow to preview Maryland’s uniforms. I know these things are big for fans and for recruiting and for retail, and I imagine the players are probably somewhat excited. I just wonder if the Terrapins or the “Moutaineers” really care once the game begins. Now, if Travis Bell gets whipped because he was admiring the symmetry on Deon Long’s gloves, OK, then we can have that conversation.

Pity if Ma Nature rains on this parade, though that may be inevitable. The weather does not look promising here, which creates an interesting time-consuming conversation before the game. Are coaches mindful of the weather right now and does it affect decisions?

Surely it’s part of choosing which direction an offense goes and what end zone a defense protects because that might loom large for a game-ending field goal. What about other strategy? Are coaches thinking about maybe valuing points and kicking that 21-yard field goal in the first quarter because it might be hard to score later? Or does a coach think about taking that chance on fourth-and-goal from the 4 because, well, it might be hard to score later?

Talk among yourselves. I’ll be in the blog.
