Welcome back. Or welcome me back. Whatever. Vacation is over and it’s only a few more weeks until I have another week off before the start of the season. This last absence was uneventful, which is good, but it comes with a side effect, too.

I have nothing to talk to you about at this moment.

I haven’t typed in a more than week. A lot of last week’s “events” don’t interest me. I was a little surprised when I heard Charles Sims committed to WVU last week. I thought the news was way premature for the former University of Houston running back … and I still haven’t seen where Sims picked WVU or where it was said he picked WVU. Have you?

Anyways, we’re in the dead part of the summer, where news is usually bad news. The Tier 3 bids are due a week from today, but nobody is going to answer questions about that. Football will have player interviews soon, but, goodness, that’s boring. “Is the team coming together? Who’s stepping up?”

This happens every year and we get through it and we’ll get through it again. I still dread it. Meantime, thanks for the asterisks in the getaway post. Should you want to cover anything that wasn’t covered when I was gone, just ask.

I figure some of you are interested in summer school. No, not WVU’s calculated policy regarding who will and will not get to take summer courses, but rather what recruits are enrolled at present.

In short, not a lot. Nathan Adrian and Devin Williams enrolled for the men’s basketball team yesterday.

That means Remi Dibo, Jonathan Holton, Brandon Watkins and Elijah Macon have not — you can add Dax Miles to that list, if you choose, be he’s merely committed and hasn’t signed a letter of intent yet.

Dibo and Watkins, we’ve thought all along, were safe. And that may well be the case. They might simply enroll July 1, which is the next occasion. The same could be true for Holton, Macon and Miles, too, but we’re also aware of academic issues for all three. They might need more time.

We knew before that Holton has to be a very productive student in summer classes so he can get his associate degree as a junior college student. Macon’s been searching for the proper combination of test score and GPA for a long, long time, hence his trip to Huntington Prep and then Brewster Prep. I was told last month he was OK, but that might not be true. Yet. Miles has not qualified and that’s a tricky proposition this late in the calendar for a high school senior. He’s running out of both time and chances.

The optimist might say that good news is one phone call or email away.

On the football side, Ronald Carswell, Stone Underwood, Ivan McCartney and Clint Trickett enrolled last month. Monday saw Shelton Gibson, Grant Lingafelter, Jacky Marcellus, Nicholas O’Toole, Tyler Tezeno, Jeremy Tyler, Elijah Wellman and Daryl Worley enrolled.

There are many others who have not enrolled, of course. Only 10 of those players are 2013 recruits and they join Dreamius Smith, Wendell Smallwood, Dakiel Shorts, Kevin White, Malik Greaves and Hodari Christian, who enrolled in January.

So Mario Alford, Al-Rasheed Benton, Brandon Golson, Marvin Gross, d’Vante Henry, Darrien Howard, Dontrill Hyman, Marcel Lazard and Isaac McDonald or somewhere out there.

This is probably a good place to say that WVU has one scholarship left to count toward the 2013 class, too.
