To review, TCU is a bashful offensive team that doesn’t do much and doesn’t really do it all that well. Then again, that depends on where you look and how you view what you see.

The Horned Frogs are No. 344 in points per game (54.8). But they’re also No. 13 nationally in points allowed (56.4). TCU is a top-100 outfit in shots allowed and baskets allowed and top-20 in 3-point field goals attempted and allowed.

The Horned Frogs are also No. 337 in possessions per 40 minutes, but No. 10 in possessions allowed per 40 minutes (60.4).

You better be efficient against this approach, and that’s not been WVU’s forte of late — nine straight games with at least 11 turnovers, five in a row with more turnovers than assists, to say nothing of the shooting percentages.

The Mountaineers are also split on their offensive allegiances and playing both the five-out motion and the four-out, one-in open offense that we know to be the four-guard set. TCU isn’t big, which may mean more of the latter, and that means a big responsibility for Kevin Noreen.

“It’s really designed to get the four guards paint touches,” Noreen said. “What they’re trying to do is drive the ball and kick it out for a shot or drive it and shoot a layup. They want me setting ball screens and giving them a path to the basket. It’s just designed to get the open looks we weren’t getting with our motion.”
