To repeat, Jeff Braun will start at center for West Virginia Saturday and Jeff Braun is not worried about how Jeff Braun will perform.

We got to watch only a little bit of the senior in action and it looked mostly uneventful. Mostly. Not entirely. Watch the second snap here.

I’m being picky, I know. Braun’s job is not easy, though.

We saw mostly special teams work in practice, just so you know that WVU did indeed work on that side of Dana Holgorsen’s three-sided ball before the game. The wind was brutal. It knocked down punts and pushed kicks, like this one from Tyler Bitancurt.

That was quarterbacks coach Jake Spavital and freshman quarterback Ford Childress wandering into the shot. Remember that.

Moving on, there was also this, which I’m not sure was by design or the product of a bad snap/hold.

I thought it was mistake in the operation. No one runs a route. Maybe it was just a test for the defense. Or maybe it was part of something else?

That was not a mistake. That was a designed run for Ryan Clarke and a block outside by Cody Clay.  Now, again, maybe the intent was to keep the defense alert. Maybe it was just a bone thrown to the media. I doubt, oh so highly, that this play, or the field goal fake above, was something you’ll see in the game.

No way a fake is practiced when the media is taping, which then gives Syracuse the ability to watch it.

Now, as for Spavital and Childress, quarterbacks are not used on special teams, which means those guys are off on their own for much of the part of practice we got to see.

How do they manage? Well, they stroll around the field and watch the special teams drills and they play their own games with director of football operations Alex Hammond.
