Not for his own gain, though. The guy won’t even field a question about the Stiff Arm if it relates to his candidacy. He’d rather throw an out to the far sideline against Cover 2 than pump his own fist, but he is ready to throw his support behind a candidate.

“I will endorse Tavon Austin,” Smith said. “I think he’s one of the best players in the country and the most electrifying player in the country with the ball in his hands.”

Here’s a talking point: A big reason why Geno won’t win the Heisman is because of Tavon. They could very well split votes, not unlike how they did for the MOP award Geno won for the Orange Bowl, because voters may differ on who is more responsible for WVU’s success.

And I suppose the opposite could be true, too, in that Tavon won’t win the Heisman because of Geno.
