The Sock 'Em, Bust 'Em Board Because that's our custom

Something’s missing

This is a quarterback drill Thursday and those are WVU’s quarterbacks going through the footwork preparations. Those quarterbacks are Paul Millard and Ford Childress. Geno Smith was missing in action and no one I talked to knew that he was gone, or why. Later we were told he was not injured and would be out on the field later — though we never saw him before we had to leave.

It’s highly irrelevant, but it did put practice in a pinch because you need at least three arms to get through WVU’s practice plan.

Millard, Childress … Holgorsen!

And he was having fun with it … and that was before he started going deep and having a lot of fun.

Ryan Clarke, it seems, rolled his right ankle Tuesday and was seen Thursday with a walking boot. We’re told it’s a lower extremity injury, which is technically accurate. Here, he gets in a workout in a red jersey. Only Clarke and Ivan McCartney have been hurt and sidelined in spring practice. Jewone Snow is in the background of this shot, but he’s been out all spring after shoulder surgery.

Finally, I had a really good talk with Andrew Buie last week and we discussed the alarmingly large number of big hits he took last season. I was surprised he wanted to get into much depth with it, but it’s not like it was news to him. Anyhow, the point he made was that he’s learned from that, realizes he has to adjust his wiggle repertoire and understand he’s going to have to get bigger and tougher.

Part of that is avoiding injury and playing through bumps and bruises. To that point, he’d been healthy and quite happy about it.

Here he is, right on time for Friday’s publication of said story, working out in a green limited participation jersey. Hey, at least he’s out there.
