The Sock 'Em, Bust 'Em Board Because that's our custom

Let’s get to know Erik Slaughter

I feel like Ben Gates, or something like that, this afternoon. I’ve uncovered a national treasure: Video footage of a WVU defensive line coach going through drills with his players. Hey, I liked Bill Kirelawich as much as the next guy … but his stylings were, shall we say, not fit for video.

Check out the new guy as he goes about his business at WVU’s second spring practice.

What follows is great … and I knew it would happen. Honest. I knew it. I watched the guy for like 10 minutes go through stuff like this and basically stand and point at the chalkboard. You could see he wanted to get in there and mix it up. He could only talk people through so much before he wanted to get in there and show people what to do.

And then it happened. He stopped this drill twice and liked the third run. Dude’s got energy.

Here’s something I’d never seen either: Bean bags in practice. Watch Jake Spavital give his players something to think about during a drill.

And then there’s the offensive line. Gosh, it’s boring. It’s all useful. There’s a purpose involved with everything they do. I just can’t imagine being one of those guys. Anybody who goes through four or five years doing what they do, whether they play or not, has my respect.
