WVU is, um, passing the time

Dana Holgorsen touched on this yesterday, but if you thought he was being nice when he was saying exciting things about injured receiver Connor Arlia being this close to playing, check out Arlia’s position coach, Shannon Dawson.

By the way, it looks like Tyler Urban might not play (Edit: WVU says he will.) play and that would leave WVU with three slot receivers — Tavon, Devon Brown and Willie Milhouse. Brad Starks, Urban, Arlia, Dustin Garrison, Terence Garvin and Josh Taylor … that’s a lot of bodies there and that’s why Dawson had not trouble singling out a key to the time between now and kickoff Wednesday.

Dawson and Darron Roberts coach the diva position. Receivers are the most high-maintenance players on a team. There’s only one ball, and while that’s true at other positions, like running back, there also one guy there, maybe two, vying for the carries. WVU has four receiver positions and through the years receivers in college and in the pros have made the highlight reel plays and garnered the attention and inspired those younger than them to seek that spotlight and then act out once inside. WVU has a grip on its receivers.

The Orange Bowl has a marquee matchup of receivers: Tavon Austin v. Sammy Watkins. Austin gravitates toward center stage and he can’t wait to be a part of showcase.

The Mountaineers like their chances passing against anyone, of course, but they respect the Tigers and the comparisons they present to the other Tigers WVU played this  season.
