The Sock 'Em, Bust 'Em Board Because that's our custom

One question I get more than anything else that doesn’t have to do with conference realignment concerns the chemistry between the offensive and defensive staffs. I honestly tell them I don’t know, and there are two reasons.

Well, three.

No one has told me specifically of a rift.

I highly doubt someone would … in the season.

And as a credit to them, whether or not said rift exists, there’s no proof of it. What you have instead is one of four teams with an offense and a defense both ranked in the top 20. The others? Boise State, Stanford and Wisconsin … which is some company in 2011.

Nevertheless, it’s a popular topic, especially if you believe this staff can stay in tact going forward. So popular, in fact, that in a Rivals.com interview, Holgorsen was quizzed on that before he was asked about Oll.

“Staffs across the country are filled with people with big egos and different personalities. The trick is to find ways to mix the guys who aren’t hanging out at night. I have been incredibly pleased with how that has gone. You talk about two staffs, offensively and defensively, that are quite honestly complete opposites. The one thing everyone shares is the common goal of success. We are used to being successful on offense and they are on defense. It’s my job to make sure it meshes. We are getting to know each other and we are practicing together, and morale among the coaching staff and players is probably as high as any I have been around.”

Chat is back at 11 a.m. tomorrow. I’ll post a link later.
