Good news, bad news, odd news for basketball team

Freshman point guard Gary Browne was cleared by the NCAA Eligibility Center Wednesday and can resume participation immediately. Freshman forward Tommie McCune is in a pickle, though. He’s scheduled to appear at a pre-trial hearing Thursday in his hometown of Saginaw, Mich., because he was arrested June 21 for shoplifting.

One problem … well, one additional problem. Actually, make that two additional problems:

Tommie McCune is in Italy. He’s been playing in the games and Wednesday was in a dunk contest.

I don’t know how these things always work, but a pre-trial hearing can be waived and delayed and I don’t think participation is always mandatory, so long as a lawyer is there. Perhaps that’s all been arranged. But here’s the potentially bad news. Bob Huggins was seemingly not made aware of McCune’s pending problem. The media received an email at 6:51 EST Wednesday night saying this:

“I was just made aware of the situation and the matter will be handled internally.”
