The Sock 'Em, Bust 'Em Board Because that's our custom

Greetings from the Zoo

This is your scorecard/program for the evening — and even you have to admit it’s pretty neat.

What’s that? You don’t? Oh.

Well, this is your live blog for the game — and even you have to admit it’s pretty neat.

Commence!

7:50: Just intercepted this piece of correspondence:

Dear Mr. Marinatto,

Uhoh!

Regards,
Carl Lewis

7:59: Bob Huggins is wearing a suit tonight.

9:04: No Talib Zanna (6-9, 225) for Pitt tonight. That’s a hit to their depth. Same starters for WVU.

9:07: With Marquette’s gritty win at UConn, WVU is either tied for seventh in the Big East standings with a win or tied for ninth with a loss. Can’t promise much the rest of the way. Internet just have me a 25 minute fit before coming back to life a few minutes ago. Enjoy.

9:10: I’ve just been told Marquette and UConn are in overtime. I was told previously Marquette had won. Like I said, 25-minute fit.

9:13: I’m going to guess Huggins was buying what Truck was selling Saturday. Twice now they’ve set a high screen to set Truck up for a shot. Cam sealed Gibbs off there. Did the same thing a possession earlier to get Mazzulla to the lane. Role reversal from the game in Morgantown. WVU up 7-0 as Pitt takes a timeout.

9:18: First media timeout for those still watching Marquette and UConn. WVU leads 7-2. Pitt is 1-for-6 and the basket came on an offensive rebound. WVU is 2-for-6. The Turk just came in at the 15:36 mark.

9:21: Pitt’s Nasir Robinson, who has four points, just went to the bench with two fouls. His replacement, J.J. Richardson, hits a baseline jumper and Pitt leads, 11-9.

9:24: And that’s Deniz’s second foul of the half, all in 23 seconds. To the bench he goes at the 11:57 media timeout. He lasted 3:41 and did nothing to warrant a mention in his favor. WVU has missed 5 of 6 while Pitt has made 5 of 7.

9:23: By the way, Truck made his first shot again. I’ll leave it there. WVU has scored four times off high screens with Cam.

9:46: Gilbert Brown was 16-for-44 from 3-point range in Big East play entering the game. He’s 3-for-3 tonight. Pitt is on a 10-2 run from down four to up four, 28-24, though Mazzulla is headed to the foul l ine for a 1-and-1 with 3:23 to go this half.

9:51: Weird thing just happened. Truck made his layup. The foul was for two shots. Pitt is not in the double bonus. Shouldn’t that have been a continuation if it was ruled a shooting foul?

9:52: Not a good half for John Flowers. He’s supposed to be on Brown there. Huggins called a timeout to make that point.

9:54: … and add an offensive foul to the ledger.

9:54: … and one one for Brown, who was in for some reason and now has three fouls.

9:56: Good finish there for WVU. Mazzulla doesn’t call a timeout on the floor because he knows he has the arrow — Pitt get possession to start the second half, but who cares? — and Cam crashes Mazzulla’s miss to give the Mountaineers a 31-30 lead.

10:26: Has to be about as bad a start to the second half as WVU could have imagined. Pitt outscoring 13-5 and is 5-for-6. WVU has already committed four fouls. Pitt leads 43-36 with 14:43 to go. Deniz and Flowers have three fouls. Deniz did have a basket, but also kicked one out of bounds.

10:32: Stop me if you’ve heard this one … b ut WVU is 2-for-12 to start the half and Pitt is on a 15-5 run. Danger zone, to say the least.

10:41: KJ is 4-for-13 and has been on the bench for a long, long time.

10:48: Pitt had 10 points in the paint in the first half. Pitt has 14 this half. WVU had 12. WVU has 14 total. WVU looks really bothered right now. Resignation is the word I’d use.

10:59: Worth noting DePaul is the Big East’s worst defensive team and Notre Dame allowed 52 points to a player last night. WVU’s offense is a rather obvious problem. It’d help the comeback cause for the Mountaineers if, you know, Pitt missed. I had them for 10 scores in 13 possessions to get to a 17-point lead. The Panthers are 13-for-20 this half. That thing we were saying before abotu consistency? Refresh it.

11:06: Comments are allowed again. … Seriously, 25-minute fit.
