The Sock 'Em, Bust 'Em Board Because that's our custom

And what’s bad gets worse

Trouble in the Coliseum. The 19th-ranked WVU women’s team lost again last night, this time at home to No. 8 Notre Dame, and fell to 1oth place in the Big East standings.

Things got interesting afterward.

Fifteen days ago, I thought Mike Carey was coaching up a little inspiration with a pinch of exaggeration when he said his team was no lock for the NCAA Tournament. Well, what do I know? WVU (21-7, 7-7 Big East) has now lost four of five, six of eight and seven of 12.

This is actually stunning, to me, at least, and games at Rutgers (15-11, 8-5) and at home against St. John’s (19-8, 8-6) are critical and certainly not gimmes. It could be the difference between the NCAA and the WNIT. Isn’t that right, Sarah Miles?

“We play to win a national championship, not to go to the WNIT,” Miles said. “I refuse to go to the WNIT my senior year.”

Don’t make too big much out of that. I’m sure Miles would play. It was an  in-the-moment statement … but in that moment, you get a look at how shaky things are for WVU.
