The Sock 'Em, Bust 'Em Board Because that's our custom

Something amiss at the Coliseum?

Might need to check the Gatorade buckets or measure the rims. Something.

For reasons that remain unknown and would seem to defy any explanation other than conicidence, WVU’s women’s team can’t shoot or score either. Tuesday’s loss to No. 2 UConn on a night when the Mountaineers were very competitive, but not very accurate, was fourth in five games and the fifth in nine games.

Once 16-0 and No. 6 nationally, the Mountaineers are No. 14 and — stop me if you’ve heard this about a WVU team — No. 9 in Big East games in scoring offense. The past five games have seen 60, 55, 59, 53 and 51 points.

Most important? Those Mountaineers would also have you believe the NCAA Tournament isn’t a lock for them, either.

“I told them we’ve got to win three or four more Big East games or we’re not going to get in the NCAA Tournament,” Coach Mike Carey said. “That’s the thing these girls have got to understand. They looked at me like they were shocked. We’re 6-5 in the Big East now and we’ve got five more games left. We can’t have a losing record in the Big East and expect to get in the NCAAs.”
