The Sock 'Em, Bust 'Em Board Because that's our custom

Friday free-for-all

No Feedback. Most of the items were addressed within the comments and in yesterday’s chat, but I’m also working on something and have a flight to Philadelphia later.

I won’t leave you empty blogged, though. Fun little activity, courtesy Sam:

“A team of Huggins-coached Beilein players against a team of Huggins-coached Huggins players. Discuss.”

Uh, yes. Will do.

Two teams, both coached by Bob Huggins. One Huggins (Recent Huggins) gets to coach only the players he’s recruited to and coached at WVU. The other Huggins (Early Huggins) gets to coach the John Beilein recruits he coached at WVU.

Here’s the New Huggins pool:

– Will Thomas
– Truck Bryant
– Kevin Jones
– Devin Ebanks
– Dee Proby
– Casey Mitchell
– Dan Jennings
– Deniz Kilicli
– Dalton Pepper
– Kevin Noreen

Here’s the Old Huggins pool:

– John Flowers
– Joe Mazzulla
– Cam Thoroughman
– Jonnie West
– Da’Sean Butler
– Jamie Smalligan
– Wellington Smith
– Alex Ruoff
– Darris Nichols
– Joe Alexander

That’s two 10-player teams … and I think you’ll fnd it more even than you think. Set a starting five and then the order off the bench.

The control in the experiment is Bob Huggins and the way he coaches and the way his teams play offense and defense and the way they rebound. The variable is the talent and how it relates to the to coach and his coaching.

How does the game go?

Not merely who wins — or how often — but why does that team win? What of the matchups? Who guards who? What battles would you look forward to? Who gets the ball late and down two? Down three? What are the strengths of one team against the other? What are the weaknesses?

Lastly, why didn’t I think of this?
