I’m curious how you, relative to your situation and your schedule, would prioritize this weekend. Here’s the situation at a very busy Coliseum complex:

Friday

Penn v. Penn State, women’s soccer first-round NCAA game, 3:30 pm
WVU v. St. John’s, volleyball, 4 pm
WVU v. Morehead State, women’s soccer first-round NCAA game, 6 pm
WVU v. Loyola (Md.), women’s basketball, 7 pm
WVU v. Oakland (Mich.), men’s basketball, 9 pm

Saturday

WVU v. Cincinnati, football, noon

Volleyball: Free!
Women’s soccer: $7 for adults, $5 for kids and seniors
Women’s basketball: (single-game) $5 for adults, $3 for kids and seniors, $2 per person for groups of 10 or more
Men’s basketball: (single-game) $25
Football: $45 and $50 and still available

This is where things get tricky: Keep in mind parking at the Coliseum has changed.

All of the Coliseum parking area is blocked the day of men’s basketball games, which eliminates parking for those who park in the Coliseum lots on a daily basis. This change will take effect for the first time this season on Friday for the men’s exhibition game against UNC Pembroke at 7 p.m.

To offset this parking loss, all are reminded that short-term parking is available at Mountaineer Station on Van Voorhis Road, at a variety of short-term lots on the Evansdale campus, and in downtown parking garages and lots operated by the Morgantown Parking Authority. All of these alternatives have easy access to the PRT and Mountain Line bus system, which is free to WVU students, faculty and staff. Information on Morgantown Parking Authority, Mountain Line, short-term parking locations and the PRT is available at the Department of Transportation and Parking website – http://transportation.wvu.edu.

There is no overnight parking allowed at the Coliseum starting at 11 p.m. the night before a men’s basketball game. Also, a limited number of parking spots by the Natatorium will be available for men’s basketball events at a cost of $20, starting two-and-a-half hours before game time. ADA parking is available at the Coliseum, with the proper credentials, for a cost of $20. New to the postgame traffic pattern this season is that traffic exiting the Coliseum gold lot will only be able to make a right turn.

Once again this year, the WVU Department of Intercollegiate Athletes will be running a shuttle in conjunction with Central Cab in an effort to help fans attending men’s basketball games. Fans are encouraged to park at the Green Lot across from the United Center on Van Voorhis Road and ride the shuttle to the games. Cost of the shuttle is $4.00 round trip and it runs 90 minutes prior to tip-off and 60 minutes after the game. The special service will pick fans up at the Green Lot and take them to the Coliseum Blue Gate prior to the game. At the conclusion of the game, fans can board the shuttle at the Blue Gate and will be transported back to their vehicles at the Green Lot.

PRT service is also available for 50 cents one-way on game days. The PRT runs until 10:15 p.m. on week nights and 5 p.m. on Saturdays.

Prepare for a logistical nightmare Friday and one WVU truly can’t prevent given the cards it must play. The spots at the Coliseum will be extremely limited — do not underestimate the soccer crowd — and good luck finding a space within walking distance. I hope you can, but be ready for a loooooong walk.

Just imagine the competition for spots up and down Jerry West Boulevard among students and fans visiting for the football game. Now add the soccer crowd and the basketball crowd. And remember, the RVs won’t be allowed in the Coliseum lot before midnight. They’ll be taking up long chunks of available parking somewhere.
