Eu-phoria? They blew it with the name change!

Three emails from Friday night/Saturday morning.

Subject: I got a feeling!

It’s euphoric!

Subject: I can’t tell you how disapointed I am

…not to see the phrase “Eu-phoria” in a headline today.

The Legend Of Eu is born. Euphoria!

A great deal of success in athletics is based on marketing. Ask Denard Robinson and Michigan … and USA Today. Not to say Geno Smith is in the same class — or that he isn’t, either — but, man, do I wonder what might have been for a kid named Eugene.

I’m certain my periodic table T-shirts would have been gobbled up weeks ago. After Friday night, people would have been running over one another to be the first to debut garments with a play on “EU-phoria.”

As you can tell, Geno has a little charisma and a whole lot of momentum right now. Not Robinson-esque, no, but I don’t think it’s crazy to assume a few people would wear Eu gear. And then that grows by itself into something else.

Everyone seems to love the yardage, the accuracy and the totality of the two drives Friday night, and understandably so. To me, the bigger outcome is something else. That it was Geno and not Jock and/or Noel who came to the rescue was particularly eudaemonic.
