Keli Cunningham, aka the other shoe?

Oliver Luck, Aug. 5:

“This past spring, we developed new job descriptions and employment agreements which clearly detail permissible and non permissible activities for graduate assistants and other sport-specific personnel. In addition, we have expanded rules education and monitoring programs.

“We have also reduced the number of football graduate assistant positions, restricted the duties of graduate assistants and non-coaching personnel, and restructured the student manager program. We may take additional actions.

Oliver Luck, Aug. 16:

“We are delighted that Keli is coming home to West Virginia University,” Luck says. “She is highly regarded in the world of intercollegiate athletics, and will be a great asset for our department. Her expertise in governance and compliance will serve us well.”

Keli Cunningham joined WVU’s athletic department Monday as an associate athletic director for governance and compliance. It’s a new position in the athletic departement and, of course, it supercedes the assistant athletic director for compliance position.

Associate is above assistant on the WVU totem pole and Cunningham will oversee the day-to-day operations of the compliance department. That duty once belonged to Patrick Hairston, who retained his title, but is in a new role.

Assistant Athletic Director Patrick Hairston will be working full time with the General Counsel’s office to assist in the preparation for WVU’s upcoming response to the NCAA football allegations and the Committee on Infractions hearing in February.

“We think it is critical for Patrick to coordinate the University team that is preparing the response to the NCAA allegations,” Luck says. “His comprehensive knowledge of the NCAA and understanding of the upcoming process will benefit us as we move forward.”

Cunningham will make 95K per year, Hairston 82K. Each is on the standard July1-June 30 athletic department employee contract. WVU’s case with the NCAA will proabably run into May. Read into that what you want.
