Ex-Binghamton Player Pleads Guilty

TROY, N.Y. (AP) — Former Binghamton University basketball star Emanuel “Tiki” Mayben has pleaded guilty to a felony drug dealing charge in his hometown of Troy, N.Y.

Rensselaer County District Attorney Richard McNally says Mayben is expected to be sentenced to five years probation as part of a plea bargain.

Mayben admitted in court Tuesday that he was involved in selling a small amount of cocaine in June.

His arrest was one in string involving Binghamton basketball players that led to turmoil at the school. Coach Kevin Broadus was suspended, athletic director Joel Thirer resigned and a State University of New York investigation found dubious enrollments and lax enforcement of academic standards for athletes.

Mayben pleaded guilty to fourth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance. Sentencing is set for July 13.
