Sorting out seeding

qmark

Before popping the top of the open post, allow me to attempt to spell out the implications today as they pertain to seeding in next week’s Big East Tourmanent.

If WVU wins

Most likely, WVU gets the No. 3 seed, though a No. 2 is possible. A WVU win and a Pitt win against Rutgers puts Pitt at N0. 2 and Villanova at No. 4. A WVU win and a Pitt loss puts WVU at No. 3 and Villanova at No. 2.

However, the Mountaineers can get to No. 2, but need a win, a Pitt loss and either A) Notre Dame and Georgetown to win or B) Notre Dame and/or Georgetown to lose and Seton Hall to win. The Mountaineers would own a tiebreaker since they’d have split with one another and lost to Syracuse.

If Villanova wins

This is easy. The Wildcats get the No. 2 seed and WVU gets the No. 4, no matter what happens between Rutgers and Pitt. Even if the Panthers lost to the Scarlet Knights, they’d have a tie-breaker against WVU (a win against Syracuse).

So take that and plug it into your bracket. Right now, at 11:09 a.m., only three seeds are set: No. 1 Syracuse, No. 5 Marquette and No. 16 DePaul. Congratulations to them.
