Latwan Anderson would like to pick a college soon

I was at a function over the weekend when Jimmy Laise of WVSports.com entered the room and entered the conversation. Upon learning of Laise and what he does, a friend perked up and said, “Maybe he knows about Latwan Anderson.”

Only he pronounced Latwan as LAT-juan … not LA-twan. This made me feel good. Mr. Anderson has not taken over the world of WVU recruiting. But he’s getting there.

Anderson, you’ll remember, committed to WVU on national television as NBC aired the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. This was a coup for the Mountaineers and just the third “five star” recruit to ever pick WVU.

Only Anderson never closed him mind to other possibilities. Ohio State entered the picture before signing day last month and then The Puppy appeared from USC and Anderson was all set to make a visit there.

Never happened. The Buckeyes exited the picture and Anderson apparently is too far from USC to make it feasible for friends and family. I can get with that and I can understand the patience involved with making the decision, to say nothing of maximizing the opportunity. Still unsigned, he until April 1 to put pen to paper.

When I heard USC was out I knew the kid had some time to make up his mind and surely a official visit or two up his sleeve. I wondered where he might visit next? Hawaii? Austin? Miami?

Miami!

“I’m disappointed with how the USC thing ended up, but I understand how my mom feels,” said Anderson. “We have family in Florida and if I choose Miami, they’ll be able to see me play more often than if I was in California.”

Anderson doesn’t know when he’ll make his final decision, but hopes it’s soon.

“This is beginning to wear on me and I just want to get this over with,” admitted the 5-11, 185-pound Anderson. “It’s down to two now — West Virginia and Miami.”
