The Sock 'Em, Bust 'Em Board Because that's our custom

A brief note on CEJ

The highlight of last night’s USA-Canada hockey game was not the debut of Eddie Olczyk’s “tremendously tremendous” — I thought it was accurately accurate, to be honest — but the cameo by CEJ.

The disastrous cameo, that is.

It was 2-2 in the second period and Canada was taking over and asserting its skill over USA’s grit. There was a stoppage — no commercials! — and the fingernails were dragged down the blackboard. That damn song. Predictably, the crowd was into it and you could hear the clapping and stomping.

Seven people texted me — I’m assuming most were you because I didn’t have the numbers saved — and I indulged and started textingback and texting others and predicting a turnaround.

Play resumed and three Canadians collided. Two had to leave the ice. During that stoppage YMCA filled the arena and Team USA promptly scored to grab the momentum.

Eventually, the lesson will be learned.
