WVU v. Pitt, 7 p.m., Big East Network

(Did I mention “Texts from Game Day” before?)

Getaway post time. Off to the 3 pm signing day press conference. I’m told WVU expects no more LOIs today and may have to wait a few days on guys like Latwan Anderson (not looking good) and Ishmael Banks (doesn’t look bad) as well as late additions that either haven’t decided or didn’t sign anywhere today.

Somehow overshadowed is this basketball game that has five intriguing subplots. Listed in no particular order …

– Deniz Kilicli’s wildly hyped debut. (Fine, fine, fine…my best guess for what to expect: 11 minutes, five points, three rebounds, three fouls, one block, two turnovers, 25-second standing ovation.

WELLS. Is this one of the best stretches of shooting ever at WVU? Consider the source (I like the guy, but this is a little ridiculous, yes?) and the timing (Kilicli was going to gobble up his minutes) and you could make the argument. He’s not going anywhere because he’s shooting it so, uh, WELL.

“It sounds simple, but it’s more about repetition,” said Smith, who ranks No. 6 in the conference in 3-point shooting with a team-best 45.8 percent (22-for-48). “I was thinking (Tuesday) that it feels good I don’t have to worry about luck. It’s not about having my lucky shoes or my lucky socks so I can start making more shots. Now it’s all about the work I’ve put into it.”

Devin Ebanks. The numbers aren’t amazing, but he’s been playing pretty well offensively, defensively and while rebounding and his minutes are up. And he’s a bad matchup for Pitt, a team he’s had success against in the past.

Who and where are the Panthers and do they figure it out tonight?

– The WVU students, who are in for quite a night. It is impossible to be in the Coliseum for a Pitt game and avoid profanity. Yet of late, what is the reputation of the students? Profane and obscene behavior. Here’s my take: This is working out wonderfully for the students. They can’t lose. If it’s bad, they are the not the ECW of college crowds — as suggested by Karl — but rather the Stone Cold Steve Austin. Middle finger to authority, eff the world attitude … and wild and somewhat unexpected popularity as a result of this behavior. Now, if the behavior is good, then bully for the cultured bullies.
