The Sock 'Em, Bust 'Em Board Because that's our custom

A way, way, waaaaay too early 2010 two-deep

On the eve of the final game of the college football season, a look ahead at how WVU might — and probably won’t — appear on paper next season.

Disclaimer: There’s no way to assume accuracy here, but I tried. For instance, you’ll see no Noel Devine, but you will see Jock Sanders. That’s my position and I might be wrong. I also didn’t account for unpredictable variables, like transfers or position changes — ie, WVU needs slot receivers … Coley White at slot? — so those things may occur and therefore affect the chart. Take that another step: The linebackers could move around in any number of ways, to be honest, and the depth could have one guy playing multiple spots. I also included a few true freshmen who haven’t even signed yet. Quantavious Leslie, for example, could play receiver next season. He’s committed right now, but he might sign elsewhere.

It’s hard to gauge those kinds of things.

That said, while this was designed to give you an idea of how things might be and I acknowledge it might be off here and there, this was researched. There were projections and conversations and even huddles. It’s not just an “Ah, crap. I need to post something today” deal. Along the way, I noticed three things:

1) WVU has more incentive to pass the ball than run it next season.
2) The offensive line could be different next season and feature new faces.
3) The safety spots have two concerns: starter at BS, depth at all three spots.
