The Sock 'Em, Bust 'Em Board Because that's our custom

Sorry, can’t do it

(Update: Transcript in the comments. Developing …)

So on Bob Huggins’ talk show Monday night Jay Jacobs asked Huggins about the media. The media.

And after Jay, who I do really like, teed one up for Huggins, Huggins predictably knocked it out of the park for what certainly appeared to be a prearranged hit on the way the sixth-ranked team in the country is covered nationally, statewide and especially locally.

I guess we have to do this now.

I received texts and e-mails from 19 separate people — most when I was in the middle of dinner with a friend, to whom I must apologize for being so distracted — asking for my thoughts, reaction and timetable for a rebuttal. It was, I guess, that brow-arching.

I’ve only been able to piece together parts of the monologue. I understand it was calm, calculated, sarcastic and somewhat sensible, which is what one might expect from Huggins in this spot and in front of a crowd.

Attention from both the fans and the media, and specifically the lack thereof, is now something that’s obviously been on his mind and he addressed it. Fine. I honestly don’t have a problem with a coach speaking his mind. I do it. Why can’t he?

That said, I just can’t toss out my two pennies about this. I haven’t heard it and while the accounts I’ve been told and read in email and — oh boy — on message boards are all pretty similar, I don’t want to be to (adjective) about it until I hear it. So I’ll wait.

I’m working on getting the monologue, but if you can help, please do.
