Jarrett Brown continues to haunt Rutgers

The history against Rutgers is pretty well documented now and JB admitted Saturday, “I guess I do have a little bit of a legacy here.” That, of course, came a short while after authoring a signature play — giving defensive end George Johnson a dead leg and a killer stiff arm to pick up a first down and ice the game (3:11 mark … though I suggest you view the whole thing because of the music).

This was performed with sufficient encouragement from offensive coordintor Jeff Mullen.

“Coach Mullen always says, ‘Man, you’re a freak. Guys can’t bring you down,'” Brown said. “I remembered him saying that, so it was, ‘Go get it.'”

Brown got it all right, and so, too, did the 6-foot-5, 265-pound Johnson, who among teammates was only slightly more popular than Brown after the game.

“We work on tackles every day and work on getting guys to the ground, and that’s just something I had to do,” Johnson said. “He made a great play.”

After Brown’s symbolic stiff-arm put RU at 8-4 (3-4 Big East), the Mountaineers (9-3, 5-2) kneed out the clock to end the regular season and the home career of 22 Rutgers seniors.

“I don’t know if I feel for [Johnson],” said senior linebacker Damaso Munoz, who led the game with 12 tackles. “He’s a senior and he’s got to make that play.”
